My Sewful Retirement

A Quilting Journey

Weekend Finishes – Gift One Done

Happy Monday!

We had a quiet weekend, hubby played golf and I spent time in my sewing room.

Hubby’s daughter is an artist – a very talented painter.  One of her popular items is personalizing/painting glass including stemware. Below is a couple of wine glasses she gifted me a few years ago – my son played for the New York Giants and wine is my favorite beverage 🙂

I chose Jenny Doan’s Tumbler quilt pattern, the shape reminds me of of many of the glasses my step daughter decorates.

The tumbler quilt was easy to assemble. I used a Moda layer cake – Mixologie by Studio M. I love the modern prints and colors, especially the coral and yellow.

I used my walking foot for quilting, simply echoing the seam lines. I backed the quilt with a gray Minky – it is super soft!

The quilt measures 55 x 78 inches – perfect for snuggling!

Until next time Happy Sewing!

  1. I have to admit, I’ve always been a little intimidated by the tumbling block pattern. Do you have any tips or suggestions? I like the colors and adding Minky as a backing makes this a super snuggly quilt. Any tips for sewing with Minky? I’ve made a pillow cover with it and it seems to stretch a lot.

  2. Hi Karla! What a fabulous quilt, and your daughter will just LOVE it. Oh, the minky feels so silky and pet-able. I agree with Sandy – I have been intimidated with that shape block. I know Jenny wouldn’t steer us wrong, but couple that with minky and the whole project sounds too hard for me. But it is beautiful as are the glasses!! Happy Tuesday! ~smile~ Roseanne
