My Sewful Retirement

A Quilting Journey

Holiday Mini Quilts

Happy Monday! I hope everyone had a wonderful and safe Christmas!

I was late getting in the “Christmas” mood this year! Normally we travel for the Christmas holidays so I don’t decorate our home. This year we hosted Christmas dinner for friends and family so I felt I needed to add a little festive decor around the house.

I love decorating with quilts, especially mini quilts, which are a great way to add pops of color to any room or space. I have 5 Babylock embroidery machines and  kept them super busy during December. I am having so much fun learning and creating with the Embroidery Software and then bringing the designs to life with the machines.

In my next few posts I plan to share all that I was able to get accomplished before Christmas.

Mug rugs are great gifts!  I was able to get these in the mail to arrive before Christmas:

For my fellow blogging friends Roseanne and Sue, from Home Sewn By Us:

Christmas 2018 HollyAlpha MR
Christmas 2018 Holly Alpha Mug Rug

For my brother in law and his partner:

Christmas 2018 Red Truck 1
Christmas 2018 Red Truck Mug Rug

For another friend:

Christmas 2018 Snowman Joy

Instead of batting I used foam to use as mouse pads for hubby and myself!

Christmas 2018 Ornament Joy
Christmas 2018 Mouse Pad
Christmas 2018 Scalloped Tree MR

I was also able to finish my Riley Blake modern greek cross quilt!

I want to wish everyone a safe and Happy New Year!  Many Blessings to you and yours in 2019. πŸ™‚

  1. Wow, 5 embroidery machines. I have 2 regular machines and 2 sergers. Maybe an embroidery machine will be in my future. I saw those mug rugs you made for Roseanne and Sue the other day. They are great. Have a Blessed Happy New Year!

  2. Your projects are so cute! Lucky R and S;) But 5 emb. machines? Do you make to sell? I have a Janome 5000 that does emb. but haven’t used it in years, but I might have to take some time in 2019 to relearn some. I love the red truck decor and would be fun to make some. But my emb. field is small I think 4×4″. Happy New Year.

  3. Thanks Vicki! Before I retired I had an online embroidery business for 6 years. I was glad to close – it truly overwhelmed me. Now I have an Etsy shop and only do personalized baby gifts- bibs, burps, and bodysuits. Besides the embroidery machines I have 3 sewing machines and one serger — needless to say I have a small fortune invested in my “hobby”. Happy New Year!

  6. Hi Karla! It’s so nice to see our pretty mug rugs featured. You do such wonderful work – I had NO idea you had five embroidery machines. WOWEE! I have a Brother embroidery machine but it also has a small hoop size – 4×6 maybe. Anyway, I think you again for the sweet rugs! We enjoyed them just this morning with some hot chocolate in mugs. We rarely drink that, but it is such a dreary morning – we needed a little pick-me-up while smiling upon our mug rugs. Many blessings and Happy New Year to you and your family. ~smile~ Roseanne (and Sue, too!)

Great job on the all the mug rugs Carole. It’s been raining all night and day here, but are grateful it’s not snow.
