Happy Fourth of July
In the past summer months tend to be slow in my Etsy shop — not this year! Don’t get me wrong I appreciate the boost in sales – it allows me to support my fabric addiction!! Unfortunately the flip side is I don’t have much time to work on quilting projects.
I’ve shared before that I prefer small projects to satisfy my need for instant gratification or depending on what time of day it is my short attention span
Going forward I’ve made a promise to spend at least one hour a day working on my quilty goodies!!
I did manage to make this cute star flag mini for my front door. I love the wavy quilting. I used one of the wavy decorative stitches on my machine. SEW easy SEW quick!
I’m using the next two blocks to practice what I’ve learned in my free motion quilting classes on Craftsy. The fabrics are scraps from another project that used the stitch n flip technique. I’ve been practicing on solids so I’m anxious to try on a real block.
For my rainbow star wallhanging project I’m using the techniques I learned in the Creative Quilting with your Walking Foot also on Craftsy. This is a wonderful class. The instructor is Jacquie Gehring, she’s wonderful, I love her work and her motto — “All quilts are perfectly imperfect”. I’m also using Jera Brandvig’s techniques in her book “Quilt As You Go – Made Modern”. This book has been a life saver for me. I’ve pieced the blocks using traditional methods but I’ll be quilting them in sections of 4. After quilting I will assemble all 4 sections and add backing with a quick allover stitch in the ditch using monofilament thread before binding. I’ll share again once I’m done.
I love granny squares quilts and I hope to someday make a lap sized one. In the meantime I had some orphan charm pack squares from Kate Spain’s Sunnyside that I had used to make a baby blanket. I didn’t feel like cutting them up so I laid them out and used my Fons & Porter Easy Diagonal Sets & side setting triangle ruler. I’m actually quite pleased with the results, I had very little to trim off. The unfinished size is 19×19 inches. Again I want to do some straight line quilting.
