Hello Fall
Fall is here! It’s my favorite season of the year! Burgundy and gold are my favorite colors to decorate with – I tend to stick with them all year
As I was searching for fall/autumn quilting projects the maple leaf quilt block really caught my eye – so many quilts on Pinterest and other websites for inspiration. I am in awe of the amazing talent out there. Needless to say there are lots of maple leaf quilt block tutorials on the web. I was searching for a 9 inch block using half square triangles and a pieced stem.
I chose this tutorial from 3 and 3 quarters. I enjoy listening to Amanda – her Australian accent is so cute and her demo and instructions are very clear.
I needed a new rug for my kitchen and I’m really loving how this quilty rug turned out!
This beauty:
- 32 inches square
- 4 – nine inch maple leaf quilt blocks
- 2.5 inch sashing around each block with a center 2.5 inch cornerstone
- 5 inch outside border using the cool text print I found at Hobby Lobby
- Warm & Natural batting
- Muslin for the backing
- Kona black for the binding
- Simple straight (ish) quilting lines quarter inch from each seam using 50 weight Aurifil 2026
- The second photo shows the back — I added corners to insert non slip fabric. I am really impressed at how the quilt stays in place and feels great
This was really fun to make! The more I practice the better I get — what a great feeling!
