One Monthly Goal – May 2018

Happy Wednesday!

Oh my goodness its hard to believe its May already!

I’m sure picking a random project for my OMG would be best and more challenging but I prefer to consult my calendar before making a selection. May will be a travel month for us so I needed to be realistic with my choice.

The winner : My black batik “Trip Around the World” quilt which I started back in 2015.

OMG – Batik trip around the world

One of the blogs I follow Aby Quilts posted a tutorial on April 10, 2018 for her Daffodil table topper. The topper is a simple half square triangle layout very similar to the layout I used for the batik quilt. Aby challenged her readers to make their own topper either in yellow or some other color combination.

I had a few green and brown half square triangles from a previous project that was perfect to use to make this topper. It   was also the perfect opportunity to test my quilting plan for the batik quilt. I hope to get the binding on tomorrow.

I did straight line quilting with one inch intervals on the background fabric and stitched in the ditch on the print fabric. I need to work on my starts and stops in the center section – other than that I’m OK with the quilt plan.

Linking up with Patty at Elm Street Quilts for One Monthly Goal!

Until next time Happy Sewing and Quilting!

Charming Bear Paw

I’m sure I’ve mentioned before that I am a pre-cut junkie! Charm packs are my weakness and I have several waiting to become quilted projects.

I fell in love with the Fat Quarter Shop classic and vintage video demonstrating how to create the Bear Paw Quilt Block. After printing the pattern I realized I could make one supersized block using a charm pack.

I’m sure this isn’t an original idea — I used 24 charms from the Fresh Cut line by Basic Grey for Moda and some yardage.  I loved how it turned out and I can’t wait to wrap baby Evelyn in it once she arrives.

The quilt measures 38 x 38 inches. I machine quilted it myself with a crazy stipple stitch. I loved the backing fabric! I found it at Hobby Lobby ! The colors in the Fresh Cut line remind me of France so when I saw the backing fabric I knew it was a perfect match!
